304 and 316 are very common stainless steel, do you know what is the difference between them?

304 contains 18%-20% chromium and 8%-10% nickel while 316 contains 16%-18% chromium,10%-14% nickel and 2% molybdenum.

The molybdenum is added to help resist corrosion to chlorides (like sea water and de-icing salts).

So,If you are planning on using stainless steel in salt water environments, 316 is the better choice. If the stainless steel you need whose superior corrosion resistance isn’t necessary, 304 stainless is also durable and can work perfectly.

What's more, 304 stainless steel is cheaper than 316 stainless steel.
